Maintenance

You Need to Take Care of Your Car.

Why Maintenance is so Important

Your vehicle is a big investment and something you can rely on for years if you take care of it the right way. In other words, you need to have quality maintenance performed on your vehicle at various times, as outlined by your carmaker and manuals.

Regular maintenance is a critical action, and it insures the safety, reliability, drivability, comfort and longevity of your vehicle. An oil change at the correct mileage would be a good example of regular maintenance.

The actual schedule for your vehicle's maintenance varies depending on the year, make, and model of your "ride", the driving conditions it operates in, and the driver's behavior.

There are two kinds of maintenance that you should regularly do to with the vehicle, Regular and Preventive maintenance.

Regular maintenance is a critical action, and it insures the safety, reliability, drivability, comfort and longevity of your vehicle. An oil change at the correct mileage would be a good example of regular maintenance.

When you do preventive maintenance, a part or parts are replaced, to avoid major damage or for safety reasons; examples being replacing your brake pads when worn, or replacing the timing belt. It "prevents" more expense, by not allowing catastrophic part failures to occur.

Carmakers provide recommendations for the so-called "ideal" service schedule based on varying parameters and usage facts like:

The number of trips the vehicle makes, and distances traveled per trip per day Operating in extreme hot or cold climate conditions Driving on mountainous, dusty or de-iced roads Doing heavy stop-and-go driving vs. long-distance cruising Do you tow a trailer, or otherwise put heavy load on the vehicle regularly?

Our experienced service advisors can recommend adjusting your scheduled service intervals, which often end up being different than the recommended service schedule. We base it on the driving conditions you're in, and the driving habits of the car owner or driver. We become a true partner in helping to increase your vehicles reliability, safety, and longevity.

Some Common Vehicle Maintenance Procedures

Common vehicle maintenance includes, but isn't limited to these items, depending on how you use your vehicle:

Common Maintenance:

  1. Vehicle wash
  2. Checking/replacing the engine oil and the oil filters (Oil Change)
  3. Checking/replacing the fuel filter(s)
  4. Inspecting and/or replacing windshield wipers
  5. Checking or refilling windshield washer fluid

Tires:

  1. Inspecting tires for pressure and wear
  2. Tire balancing
  3. Tire rotation
  4. Wheel alignment

Tune-up and Periodic check by Service Dept:

  1. Checking, cleaning or replacing battery cable and check the battery
  2. Inspecting or replacing the Brake pads
  3. Checking or flushing Brake fluid
  4. Checking or flushing Transmission fluid
  5. Checking or flushing Power Steering fluid
  6. Checking and flushing Engine Coolant (Radiator)
  7. Inspecting or replacing spark plugs and/or Plug wires
  8. Inspecting or replacing Air Filter
  9. Inspecting or replacing Timing Belt/Chain
  10. Inspecting or replacing Other belts
  11. Checking all the lights
  12. Checking if rubber boots/covers are cracked and need replacement
  13. Testing electronics, e.g., Anti-lock braking system or ABS
  14. Reading fault codes from the Engine control unit (Computer diagnostic)

A "Tune-up" isn't what you think it is!

Some of these tasks have equivalent service intervals; they are usually combined into one single service known as a "tune-up". In modern vehicle, with advanced electronics controlling most of the mechanical and safety functions, the traditional "tune-up" service that you may have gotten on an older vehicle doesn't apply anymore.

Maintenance jobs like a tune-up used to mean getting the engine's performance back on track. Today embedded software takes care of it by constantly checking thousands of sensor signals, compensating for worn-out spark plugs, clogged filters, etc. Our service department works with the on-board systems to keep everything running safely and at optimum efficiency for you.
